Labor Day

Isn't Labor Day a day to honor those do labor with a day off? Well look at what we did this weekend.

When we moved into our house there was a tree in the front yard that we really weren't fond of. We wanted to get rid of it almost from day one. In this picture it looks like its leaning towards the house but it really didn't It actually leaned towards the driveway (where the picture was taken). It dropped needles and grass wouldn't grow under it. It had to be trimmed to keep it off the house and up so you could mow under it. If you got out of the car wrong it would poke you in the face (happened to me many times).

I offered it to my Brother-in-law and Father-in-law since they heat with wood. But due to the fact that it had to fall in 1 direction or it would either hit powerlines or the house. They both opted out. I considered a craigslist post offering it to whoever wanted to cut it down but Mom pointed out that their may be some issues with that idea. One of KnitTechs co-workers also heats with wood. He is thinking of a tree trimming business so she asked if he wanted it. He said yes and came over on Sunday and we got to work.

Would you believe that is a 1000 dollar chain saw?

And she's down. We managed to drop it exactly where we wanted it. Didn't hit anything but the ground. Gutters were safe and no cars or people hit. The picture makes it look like its in the street but it was only about 3 feet in.

Several hours later the yard looked like this. We still need to rake and get the pile cleaned up. KnitTech's co-worker will be coming back on wednesday to haul off the brush pile. Don't worry they are going to a recycling place to be turned into ground cover for the city. He was back on Tuesday and split the wood and hauled it off. He also leveled out the stump so our Ogre will have a nice flat surface.

I'll get finished pictures when the pile is gone and we've raked it up.
